«Kaolin»Pottery Workshop is one of the first enterprises in Aktau specializing in the production of handcrafted ceramics. Today, the workshop creates souvenir products, decorative ceramics, and handcrafted tableware that adorn homes and restaurants. The founder of the workshop, Askhat Askarovich Nurmukhanov, graduated from the College of Decorative and Applied Arts in 2009. His knowledge and passion for ceramic craftsmanship inspired him to establish his own ceramic production business. In 2017, investing approximately 4–5 million tenge, the entrepreneur opened a small pottery workshop in Aktau. This marked the beginning of the story of Kaolin, which has since become one of the most recognizable ceramic manufacturers in the Mangystau Region. The first months were challenging. However, within just six months, the workshop began receiving its first large orders for ceramic tableware from restaurants. At that time, there were very few similar manufacturers in the region, allowing Kaolin to quickly establish its niche and build a strong reputation. Over the years, the company has grown significantly. Revenue has increased, and the team has expanded by five employees compared to its early days. Although competition has intensified, it has motivated the company to improve production processes and continuously enhance product quality. One of the biggest challenges the entrepreneur faced was finding suitable production facilities and securing high-quality raw materials. Despite these difficulties, the company successfully launched its own production, expanded its manufacturing capacity, and began scaling its operations.
A major milestone in the company's development was the support received from the Damu Entrepreneurship Development Fund. Through the Orleu program, the company obtained support that enabled it to purchase modern equipment and increase its production capacity. As a result, production volume nearly doubled. The company actively participates in exhibitions, trade fairs, and creative events. In 2022, the founder independently organized a symposium dedicated to the development of ceramic art. In 2026, Kaolin showcased its products at the Ulttyq Ónim (National Product) exhibition, where Kazakhstan's leading domestic manufacturers presented their best products.
Over the next few years, Kaolin plans to expand its sales geography, increase production capacity, and enter markets beyond the region. The founder believes that success comes to those who are not afraid to move forward:
"The most important qualities in business are patience, continuous development, and the willingness to take well-calculated risks. Every mistake becomes valuable experience if you learn from it and continuously improve your way of working."
