This year, the domestic brand Kerim Sulu celebrates its 10th anniversary. Behind the company’s decade-long journey stands not only entrepreneurial success, but also years of dedicated daily work, a love for beauty, respect for craftsmanship, and a strong commitment to preserving national traditions. Kerim Sulu specializes in the production of traditional Kazakh textile products. Its sewing workshop creates dowry sets for brides, quilted blankets made using the traditional quraq patchwork technique, blankets, pillows, bed linen, exclusive gift sets for matchmaking ceremonies, and other traditional textile products.
A special place in the brand’s work is dedicated to the creation of bridal dowries. A bride’s farewell ceremony is one of the most emotional, meaningful, and memorable occasions in the life of a young woman and her family. Therefore, every detail of this important day should be beautiful, harmonious, and filled with special meaning. This philosophy lies at the heart of Kerim Sulu’s work. Every product is created with particular attention to detail, bringing together aesthetics, quality, and respect for tradition.
The brand’s mission is not simply to create beautiful products, but to preserve cultural heritage through contemporary craftsmanship. Kerim Sulu’s traditional textiles become part of important family celebrations, carrying forward customs and values passed down from generation to generation.
The history of the brand is closely connected with the story of its founder, Zhanar Maksatovna Prekeeva. Since childhood, Zhanar Maksatovna had dreamed of becoming a teacher. After graduating from Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda State University with a degree in Electrical Power Engineering, she began working as a lecturer at a college, fulfilling her childhood dream.
At the same time, creativity and a passion for creating beauty had always held a special place in her life. A turning point came when she met a woman who was professionally engaged in sewing. At that time, Zhanar herself did not know how to sew. However, she possessed other important qualities: the ability to organize work and, most importantly, the confidence that she could learn and succeed if she truly believed in what she was doing.
This was how her first attempt at starting her own business began. An old sewing machine, three meters of fabric, and a strong desire to get started. Zhanar began making her first products together with her partner at home. They sewed körpe, körpeshe, decorative pillows, and other The first customers quickly appreciated the quality of their work. The products stood out not only for their beauty, but also for the care and attention given to every detail.
However, enthusiasm and customer demand alone were not enough. There were not enough financial resources to develop the business further, and after six months, the first project had to be suspended. For Zhanar Maksatovna, however, this was not the end. It became an important lesson.
She realized the most important thing: customers genuinely liked the products, which meant that there was demand and, therefore, potential for the business to grow. The only question was how to create the right conditions for production. Zhanar Maksatovna decided to try again. This time, she approached the business more systematically and sought opportunities through government s pport programs.
After receiving a grant from the Investment Center of Kyzylorda, she purchased sewing machines and hired her first four employees. A small sewing workshop was then established in one of the rooms of her own apartment. The business gradually began to grow. The number of orders increased, and new customers appeared. However, growth brought a new challenge: the home-based workshop was becoming too small.
The sewing machines were operating almost constantly, and neighbors began complaining about the noise. It became clear that further development required a proper commercial facility.
At this stage, the support of the Damu Entrepreneurship Development Fund played an important role. With the assistance received, Zhanar Maksatovna was able to purchase commercial premises and take the production to a new level. This decision became one of the key milestones in the company’s history. It created an opportunity to increase production capacity, the product range, and create new jobs. Gradually, 30 employees.
The story of Kerim Sulu is a story of gradual growth — from a small home workshop to an independent production facility, from the first handmade products to a domestic brand that has spent ten years creating traditional textiles for some of the most important and cherished moments in families’ lives.
